Makira (Kira) Burns is a proud Orlando native and a Spring 2023 graduate of Florida A&M University, where she earned a B.S. in Political Science with a Pre-Law minor. While at FAMU, she secured thousands of dollars in scholarships and founded a non-profit organization, Igniting Scholars, to help students do the same. She also landed competitive internships each year, including with the Florida House of Representatives, the U.S. Embassy in London, Florida’s Executive Office of the Governor, Borntreger Law Firm P.A., and served as an HBCU Ambassador for the Biden-Harris Administration.
After graduating, she gained hands-on legal experience through a two-year rotational program at Latham & Watkins, a global law firm, while preparing to attend law school as an inaugural cohort member of the Yale Law School Launchpad Scholars Program. Kira is building a strong foundation to become a changemaker in the legal field — and she’s sharing that journey in real time.
